The Tale of the Snail

Once upon a time there was a snail who wanted to see the world. This was hard to do, as he traveled quite slowly.

One morning when he began his walk, he felt many footsteps pass him by. He thought he must be near a very special place. He hoped he would be able to reach this special place and see it for himself.

Then a very kind boy, who saw the snail stretched out along the path, decided to show the snail the view.

It was a spectacular view.

Then the boy’s brother came over
and he thought something was missing.

He came back with
a friend.

And the spectacular view
became a very special place.

Love it, love it, love it. Haley and Trevor spend almost every morning in the backyard (after the sprinklers have gone off) searching for snails. They are most gentle, and always trying to find them food and shelter. I think the snails next door die a slow death next door with their little boy.

  2. What a cute story. I might not have sounded that cute if you hadn’t written it like that. I love it.

…and this slimy friendship story happened on the northwest coast, a snail vacationing hotspot because of ideal fog conditions. nearby in the redwoods banana slugs were having a ball. beautiful tale of a snail.

Very nice. For kids and adults. Poetic.

@Amy: My kids have a soft spot for snails too. They are very concerned about where the snails are going and if they are happy.

    @Marina: Thank you very much.

@FrogMom: Yes, in fact this whole scene played out Bandon, Oregon. Quite a few snails were out enjoying the foggy morning.

@Gordon: It was great watching the whole thing play out. How could I resist snapping shots and posting them? I feel like I just translated the kids’ story for them. They are true poets.

@Arrows: Thanks so much for the link back!

@Eric: Look forward to hearing from you!

@Wanderluster & Dominique: Thanks, and the snails do seem to be cozying up happily.

@Amy: If I could think of a way for a snail to travel more quickly, you might be on to something. ;)
