Yosemite: Great place for kids

This weekend we are heading for Yosemite.

Yosemite is one of most popular national parks in California, and for good reason. The beauty there is incredible. If you can overlook that you will be sharing the area with thousands of other tourists (not as bad as it sounds, it’s plenty spacious) then you may find many advantages to being in a well-traveled park. The one I most look forward to is the wide variety of kid programs.

My youngest is at the age (3yrs) that he can and wants to participate in programs with other kids. So, of course, my husband and I are encouraging of his participation in educational activities. (Read also: encouraging him to join his brother while we take a break from being the entertainment planners.)  Either way you look at it, Yosemite has plenty to offer. Wee Wild Ones activities (for kids under 6 yrs), and Junior Ranger activities (Junior Ranger are for ages 7-13 and Junior Cubs are for ages 3-6) are available throughout the day.

Hiking opportunities for families are plentiful. Debi at Go Explore Nature has put together a great list of hikes for tykes in Yosemite. I have also ordered a children’s book off of the suggested Yosemite reading list  posted at Disney Family.com. This Monday I am dreaming of a weekend full of waterfalls, rocks for climbing, nature centers, cultural stories, campfire singing and star gazing. Nice to know that in a week it will all come true.

This post is part of the Mondays are for Dreaming series hosted by Mara at Mother of All Trips. Check out her site for more travel dreams.

Have a great trip! The activities you listed are great. I’m hoping to get my kids up to Rocky Mountain National Park this summer and have the participate in some of the junior ranger activities. Its a great way to get them enjoying the outdoors!

@ Marc: Just got back, and my son was so proud to have completed his “little cub” workbook and received his button. Hopefully the Junior Ranger acvities will be similarly as engaging.

I got a daughter and at her very young age she was able to explore many places one of this is the great Yosemite. Kids love this place so much especially he went there with her cousins.
