We tried Legoland two years ago since both my husband and I grew up with legos. Our 6 your old disabled daughter was thrilled when we started the day. Come to find out this park had many unfriendly aspects for the disabled. Their solution to for disabled to not have to stand in the long lines was to make them trek twice as far to sign up for rides and then return later. We also found rides that required the disabled person to go in an " employee only" operated elevator. Unfortunately the employees that could work these elevators were also unaccessable. The lego displays were amazing, but on the whole we were disappointed.
After writing to park management later to inquire about the unaccessable rides, we were assured that the issue would be solved for our next trip and offered free passes. We will wait before returning.

Lora I think this is the best review of Legoland I have read (and I have written my own review). We have little desire to return to Legoland even though we live less than an hour away just because of the cost. Its insane to me. We have annual passes to Disneyland (due to proximity and the fact that everyone who comes to visit us wants to go) so a theme park has to be pretty good for me to want to spend that much money on it. My kids did have a fun time and we went on a day when it wasn't so crowded but still we just weren't impressed enough. I will say the water features were really cool for the summer and that would make me want to go back but overall, it was just too expensive for my blood. I think my theme park eyes have been blurred by Disney.

A little update regarding doing some shopping at the Legoland stores. Robin, who works at Legoland, gave me this information:

"If you are interested in just shopping at LEGOLAND, simply stop by the outside Guest Services window and request a Shopper's Pass. An imprint of your credit card will be taken and if you return to the outside window within 1 hour, your card will not be charged (please note that a 1 hour Shopper's Pass must be initiated a minimum of 2 hours prior to Park close and a ½ hour Shopper’s Pass may be initiated a minimum of 1 hour prior to Park close)

If you spend more than $20 while in the Park on a Shopper's Pass, your parking will be refunded when you present your paid parking ticket. Note that parking refunds will be issued only to official Shopper's Pass guests."

General Park admission guests are not eligible for parking reimbursement, regardless of amount spent inside the Park.

Great tip too. I hadn't heard of that, but can see where that would make a huge difference on crowded days.

We love Legoland! My kids even opted for one day at Legoland over two days at Disneyland last summer. One thing very few people know is that you can upgrade your admission tickets to 'front of the line pass' tickets. The price is significantly greater (hence the fact that we opted for only one day there instead of an extra day at Disney), but it made for such a relaxing and enjoyable day, it was worth it! I'd only recommend it on summer weekends though, as the rest of the year, Legoland is very manageable, crowd-wise.

@ Amy: From the pictures I can find on the web, the Legoland store in Minneapolis looks large and fun. I'm guessing there's a theme park with rides in that huge mall elsewhere.

@ Julie: Thanks for the inside scoop on discount tickets. Always great to hear from folks who are there daily.

Hi Amy, I feel compelled to chime in here...I loved reading Lora's blog and as a mom with two young boys of my own, she hit is on the head. That said, yes, I work at LEGOLAND and just wanted to mention two things: One, there are always great promotions running such as Costco like Lora mentioned or Submarina right now has Free Child with Paid Adult 1-Day Hopper tickets.
Secondly, the Mall of America has a LEGO store - NOT a LEGOLAND theme park. LEGOLAND

Those prices are steep. Yikes. So, you're probably tired of me talking about all the great things Minneapolis has to offer, especially since in the same breath I talk of how much I want to leave... but yet again, this post compels me to mention that The Mall of America has it's own Legoland. And it's FREE.

It's not on the Disneyland scale, but it's still pretty impressive, with a large gift shop (of course) displays, HUGE bins of legos and a play area for kids to create. Plus, they host birthday parties.

Haley will be turning 4 in a couple weeks and I really wanted to take advantage of this, but they book up far in advance. I have failed as a parent, again ;-)
