Though I get the fun of telling of our adventures, I must hand credit to my hubby who actually does most of the work of our camping trips. Your spouce's interests definately shape the family adventures.

I think that's the key to do any adventures with kids. I have the same mindset. On our first camping trip, I fully prepare to abort and get home if it didn't turn out well. But I have to give you the big kudo because you actually had to paddle to your campsite!

I have complete respect for the fact that you made this trip and also for the fact that you cut your losses. I think that's a key part of successful travel with kids, especially when they are under five.

I will tell you that now that mine are 4 and 7 I'm finding it generally easier to ask more of the kids, although we haven't tried anything like this (partly because my husband is not such a fan of camping).

Love that photo with the moon!

Ah, kids. They certainly add a whole other dimension to leaving the house. And certainly for a road/camp/boating trip. Our kids are at a tough age (3 1/2 and 1 1/2), where one naps, one doesn't. 3YO can somewhat occupy herself, but baby brother is nowhere near being able to do that. I think it's really tough.

You and Jeff are so ambitious!
