Right off of Interstate 80 is Roseville Golfland – Sunsplash. Here there are two 18-hole miniature golf courses, tons of water slides (Open beginning on Memorial Day) and a large arcade all in the confines of a huge castle. Even if this isn’t your kids’ first experience with mini-golf, the courses offered on this one are well kept and offer interesting obstacles. My kids are admitedly young for golfing, it was mostly a fascinating play area. So if that’s the case for you, the trick is definitely to go on a weekday when there aren’t many people around. Be warned of hole #6 if you take the left course. (yes, there are two 18-hole courses to choose from) There is a small ramp on which you should hit the ball strongly, so it will clear to the course a foot away or so. I didn’t notice on the other side of the ramp (prior to the hole) is a small stream, so if you don’t hit the ball hard enough it sinks into the stream and rolls down into a pond.
Less than a mile from the mighty castle is a restaurant called Incredible John’s. To get there from Golfland-Sunsplash, head southeast toward Taylor Road. Go Left on Eureka then left on Sunrise. To enter you buy a trip to the buffet, and can at that time purchase a “fun card” of varying denominations that give a number of credits on the card. These can be used for the games area where there are video games for different ages and even a whirly ride. The buffet includes a salad bar, a potato bar, lots of different kinds of pizza, and a dessert bar. You can choose from one of five different rooms to sit, and of course the one with the cartoons was my kids’ pick. After pizza we headed out to the game room. Even with the least expensive fun card I had more credits than time to entertain both of them. I ended up taking the fun card home to save for another day.
