This is a great sized zoo for kids, not too large and not too small. Specifically, there are 400 animals on 14 acres. I would suggest visiting right as they open at 9am. Animals tend to get tired and retreat to their resting areas in the afternoon, so a trip later in the day often does not produce as much to see. There is a train near the entrance that takes a short tour of the area. You can rent strollers there as well. In the summer there are animal shows which are great for young kids. After the show the trainers allow you to see the animals close up.

If you plan your trip early, you might consider some of the extra opportunities the zoo offers. For example, they offer “overnight safaris”, two-hour classes for preschool aged kids, and week long summer camps for kids of all grade levels.

If you decide to also visit Fairytale town, be sure to get a park pass that saves you money for the admission of both parks.

Special Events: In July there are evening concerts at zoo.
